Tractor Boys move for McCarthy

Promising Reading goalie Alex McCarthy has agreed to join Ipswich Town on loan till the end of the 2011/12 season. The Tractor boys were in the market for a keeper after seeing Robbie Stockdale called back by Fulham and McCarthy, who recently returned to the Madjeski following a loan stint at Leeds, fit the bill perfectly. McCarthy will compete with Arran Lee-Barrett and Richard Wright for the right to stand under the sticks at Portman Road.

McCarthy is a well travelled goalie, having previously had loan stints at Woking, Cambridge, Bath, Aldershot, Yeovil and Brentford. He has also been capped by England at U21 level.

The 22 year old McCarthy is a product of the Reading academy.
