Donovan set for Everton

American international Landon Donovan is set to join Premier League Everton, on a three-month loan deal from LA Galaxy. He is set to complete a similar sort of deal to that of teammate David Beckham, who will join AC Milan in the January transfer window.

Donovan has had previous stints in Europe in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich. However he had little chance to impress in his two frustrating spells in Europe. Donovan is keen to play regular football to keep up the level of his fitness ahead of the start of the MLS in March and the World Cup in June.

He will join up with international teammate Tim Howard at Goodison Park, if he does complete the expected move. A statement from LA Galaxy suggested that Everton had competition for the star but it looks as though the Toffee’s have sealed the deal.

The statement on www.mlsnet.com read: “We are aware of Everton’s interest in Landon Donovan as they are one of a number of clubs who have contacted the Galaxy about the possibility of a short-term loan agreement. The Galaxy, MLS and Landon’s representative will work together to determine if and whether an arrangement with Everton or any other club would be beneficial to all parties.”
