Blackburn close in on Chimbonda

Blackburn Rovers have agreed a £2million for Tottenham’s right back Pascal Chimbonda. He will transfer to Ewood Park subject to a medical. Chimbonda agreed to take a pay cut to move to Tottenham for a second spell in January but failed to create any impression at White Hart Lane. He made only three appearances for Spurs after being behind Verdan Corluka and Alan Hutton in the pecking order for the right back spot.

Chimbonda’s representative, Willie McKay, said the deal was close to being completed and the right-back was set to undertake a medical at Blackburn –

“We are in the process of sorting things out,” McKay told Sky Sports.

“Pascal is travelling up to Blackburn and will hopefully undergo a medical tomorrow if everything is agreed.”

Chimbonda’s move to Blackburn paves way for Stephen Warnock’s move to Villa. Warnock has voiced his desire to play for a bigger club and Martin O’Neill is ready to offer £8million for his services. Warnock was also left out of his side’s Carling Cup victory over Gillingham on Tuesday night.

Sam Allardyce is still looking for some defensive reinforcements before the close of the window. Ivory Coast international Steve Gohouri from Borussia Munchengladbach and Hibs’ Sol Bamba are on the top of his wish list.
