Artur Boruc seals Viola switch

Polish goalkeeper Artur Boruc completed his transfer to Italian side Fiorentina for an undisclosed amount after having spent six long seasons in Scotland with Glasgow Celtic. The 30-year old custodian has signed a two-year contract.

Boruc had signed for Celtic from Legia Warsaw in 2005. In 2008, he signed a contract extension which would have seen him stay at the club till 2011. In his six seasons at Celtic, Boruc made 162 appearances and won numerous recognitions like nomination for Scottish PFA’s Player of the Year in 2007. Boruc was also Celtic’s hero during the Champions League third qualifying round against Spartak Moscow in 2007-08 where he won the penalty shoot-out for his club. Boruc’s Fiorentina move paves the path for French goalkeeper Sebastien Frey to join English club Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Celtic have moved quickly to sign Mexico right-back Effrain Juarez for an undisclosed amount. The deal has been agreed in principle and the player will move to the club subject to a medical and a successful work permit application. This would become Neil Lennon’s fourth signing of the season after the deals for right-back Cha Du-Ri from Freiburg, former Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley and ex-Aberdeen defender Charlie Mulgrew.
