Wolfsburg sign Auxerre’s Thomas Kahlenberg

German Bundesliga champions VfL Wolfsburg have announced the signing of midfielder Thomas Kahlenberg from Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre. Kahlenberg has put pen to paper a four year deal, and will stay with the Wolves till 2013.

The transfer fee that Wolfsburg paid Auxerre for the Danish international’s services was not disclosed. Kahlenberg joined Auxerre from his native Brondby in July 2005 for £2.5m. He made over 100 appearances for AJA, and scored eighteen goals in his time at Stade l’Abbé-Deschamps.

Kahlenberg said that he was very happy with the switch to the Bundesliga, and added that he wanted to become a reliable first team player for Wolfsburg.

The lure of Champions League football would have also played its part in Kahlenberg’s decision to switch leagues. Wolfsburg will be playing in the group stages of the 2009-10 UEFA Champions League after emerging surprise winners of the current Bundesliga season.
