Championship side Watford are taking a look at trialists in a bid to improve their squad. The two most high-profile are Everton youngsters Moses Barnett and John Nolan. The duo are set to be released by the Premier League club this summer.
Barnett is a versatile defender, who can play at full-back and centre-back. The former Arsenal academy player spent a short spell at League Two Darlington earlier this season and has played for England at youth level. Despite plenty of potential the defender has been unable to break into the first team.
17 year-old midfielder John Nolan has been at Everton since he was seven but is now set to leave the club as the club won’t be offering him a new contract. Both Barnett and Nolan played for Watford’s reserves on Monday night.
The other players on trial at the club are Padraig Quinn, Ryan James and Rodney McDonald all appeared in the reserve teams 9-3 victory over Stevenage Borough. Hornets boss Malky Mackay now has to decide who to keep and who to let go.
He told the Watford Observer: “We are going to have a look at a couple of them again for another few days and we will discuss it further tomorrow. There will be a couple leaving us and a couple who will be staying for another few days.
“There was a lot of work done with our staff in terms of bringing together a lot of youngsters to look at for our Academy and youth set-up.”
