United eye reinforcements to their squad

With Gary Neville already having hung up his boots and Edwin Van Der Sar retiring at the end of this season and senior players like Scholes and Giggs in the twilight of their careers, Sir Alex is desperate to add a few new faces to his squad. Although the Red Devils made no additions to their roster in January, they are actively scouting for potential additions.

Patrice Evra’s contract expires in 2012 and the French star has not yet put pen to paper on a new deal. Sir Alex is eyeing Celtic’s Honduran left-back Emilio Izaguirre as he looks for more options in the left side of defense. Ferguson personally watched him in action when Celtic faced Rangers in the Scottish Cup. Izaguirre joined Celtic in the summer from his homeland, choosing the Scottish club over various Premier League suitors like Wigan.

United are also keeping tabs on Newcastle’s Ivorian midfielder Cheik Tiote. Sir Alex is expected to make a bid of around £15 million for the player in summer. Tiote is considered to be a replacement for Owen Hargreaves whose United career has been plagued with injuries throughout.

Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is also a big target for the Old Trafford club.
