Tottenham issue hands off warning to Chelsea over Luka Modric

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has told Chelsea that Luka Modric is not for sale. Chelsea have made a £22m bid for the Croatia international and Modric has hinted that he is keen on the move.

Spurs are desperate to hold on to the 25-year-old midfield playmaker and have told Chelsea Luka is not for sale at any price. Levy said: “We made our stance on this issue abundantly clear in writing to Chelsea,” he added. “They chose to ignore it then made the offer public.”

Modric put pen to paper on a new six-year contract with Spurs only last year. But in an Exclusive interview with the Daily Mail newspaper, Modric said: “I have an arrangement with the chairman. When I signed my new contract, he said that, if another club came to sign me, they would consider the offer.”

Spurs signed Modric back in 2008 from Dinamo Zagreb for more than £16m, and he has been a key player for Spurs scoring 12 goals. At the end of the 2010–11 season, Modric was voted the Fan’s Player of the Year.
