Tottenham complete Gudjohnsen swoop

Tottenham have completed the signing of Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen on loan from Monaco for the remainder of the season. The former Chelsea forward was expected to sign for West Ham yesterday after holding discussions and having a medical with the Hammers.

However Tottenham made a last ditch to sign the experienced star and he has decided to join Tottenham instead. The Hammers board and management are believed to be furious with Tottenham for what they see as their city rivals hijacking the deal. However Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has claimed that both sides offered the same terms and Gudjohnsen choose to move to White Hart Lane.

Gudjohnsen has a wealth of experience at club level having played for European champions Barcelona and also Premier League leaders Chelsea, before making the move to France with Monaco. He has struggled to settle in the principality and has long been linked with a move back to England.

The Icelandic international will provide Tottenham with a different attacking option to what they already have, as he offers more creative qualities than the likes of Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane. Spurs will be hoping that Gudjohnsen can help the club clinch a lucrative Champions League spot.
