Tonge signs for Preston on loan

Championship side Preston have signed Stoke midfielder Michael Tonge until loan till the end of December. The 26 year-old only joined Stoke last summer for £2million after spending the majority of his career at Sheffield United.

Tonge hasn’t appeared for the Potters in the Premier League this season and has become frustrated by his lack of first opportunities. North End are currently in midtable in the Championship and are hoping to push further up the table and challenge for promotion.

Preston boss Alan Irvine told the clubs official website: “There is no question he has a lot of experience.

“He can play all the way across midfield and he certainly bolsters an area where we have been a little bit short of numbers, particularly since Barry Nicholson broke his leg. He is a creative player. He is good on the ball and he is a player who wants to take the ball. He is a nice passer and he has got a very good work rate.

“Like everyone, he is not guaranteed a game, but we are hoping that he comes in, does well and plays in all eight games for us and does a good job for us. He is looking to get some football and hopefully this will be his opportunity to do that.”
