Sunderland join race for Wickham

Sunderland have joined Liverpool in the race to sign highly rated Ipswich forward Connor Wickham. The Black Cats are expected to use the money generated by the sale of Jordan Henderson to the Reds to bankroll their bid for the young striker.

The Black Cats are ready to offer the Tractor Boys £10m to persuade Wickham to accept a switch to the North East. Also Wickham will be guaranteed first team football at Sunderland, something that is not a certainty at Liverpool, a fact that the Black Cats hope will play into their favour.

Wickham is just 18 but has already been hailed as a talent for the future with his displays for Ipswich and England.

Liverpool bid £5.5m for Wickham a few days ago, but had their bid rejected by Ipswich, who are looking for atleast £10m for their prize asset.
