Spurs appoint Australian as new manager

Tottenham Hotspur have officially appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager. The 57-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the North London outfit and will become the first Australian to manage in the Premier League.

Postecoglou arrives at Spurs from Scottish giants Celtic, where he won a domestic treble in the recently concluded 2022-23 season. He had a win percentage of close to 75% during his tenure at Parkhead.
Spurs were looking for a new manager after the departure of Antonio Conte in March, with Cristian Stiellini and Ryan Mason put in charge of affairs till the end of the season. Apart from Postecoglou, the Lilywhites were also reportedly interested in the likes of Roberto de Zerbi, Marco Silva, Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, but eventually chose to go with the Australian.

Spurs had a disappointing 2022/23, with their eighth placed finish meaning no European football for the club in 2023/24. There is also talk about talismanic forward Harry Kane leaving the club, with Manchester United and Real Madrid both said to be very interested in his services.

Before joining Celtic, Postecoglou had managed Yokohama F-Marinos in Japan and Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory in the Australian A-League. He was also coach of the Socceroos when they qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
