Sir Alex hails Ryan Giggs and Edwin van der Sar

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has praised veterans Ryan Giggs and Edwin van der Sar for creating new records during his side’s 1-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday.  United sealed three points thanks to Giggs’ goal, and are back on the top of the Premiership after being pushed to second place on Saturday by Liverpool, who beat Portsmouth 3-2.

Giggs’ goal means that the Welsh winger has now scored in all seventeen seasons of the Premier League. What makes it more special is the fact that Giggs scored with his right foot, rather than his preferred left one.

Van der Sar broke Bobby Clark’s British record of 1155 minutes without a goal during the game. The Dutch veteran has now gone 1212 minutes without conceding after Samir Nasri scored against him in November.

West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola hailed the Red Devils after their win, saying that his side had tried everything known to them to keep United quiet, but were unsuccessful in their attempt to do so.
