Newcastle United have officially placed tough midfielder Joey Barton on the transfer list. Barton is in the final year of his contract at St.James’ Park and has been unable to agree a new deal with the Magpies. His constant criticism of the club on social networking site Twitter has also not gone down with the mandarins on Tyneside, who have decided that the club are better off with him.
The Magpies made the announcement on their official website and also added that Barton had been given the go ahead to leave the club on a free transfer.
Barton was a key figure for Newcastle last season, scoring four and setting up nine as the Magpies finished in a safe mid table position following their promotion from the Championship.
