Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Vurnon Anita from Ajax Amsterdam. The 23 year old has moved to the Magpies for a reported fee of 8.5m euros and has put pen to paper a five year contract at the Sports Direct Arena. He is a versatile player whose primary position is defensive midfielder, but can also double up as a full back if required.
Anita has been with Ajax since 2005 and has made over 100 appearances for the Amsterdam outfit.
Anita, born in the Netherlands Antilles, has represented the Oranje at senior level. He narrowly missed out on selection for the 2010 World Cup despite being included in the preliminary squad.
