Liverpool sign Mignolet, but haven’t launch a bid for Mkhitaryan

Liverpool have secured the signing of Belgium international keeper Simon Mignolet for a fee in the region of £9million from Premier League rivals Sunderland. The 25-year-old was one of the few impressive players for the Black Cats in a very disappointing campaign.

Arsenal were also believed to be interested in signing Mignolet, but the Reds have now secured the keeper on a long-term contract. The move raises further doubts over the future of Liverpool number one Pepe Reina, who has been linked with a move back to his homeland with Catalan giants Barcelona.

Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk have revealed that they have received no bids for Liverpool-target Henrikh Mkhitryan. The Armenian international midfielder scored 25 league goals last season, helping Shakhtar to only their third Ukrainian national league title.

The 24-year-old has emerged as one of Liverpool’s top transfer targets this summer. A fee of around £20million has been mooted. The transfer seemed to have come closer to reality after the playmaker failed to return to the club for pre-season training.

However, the club have claimed that the player has never expressed a wish to leave and that Mkhitryan will be fined for failing to return to the club on time for pre-season training.
