Juan Mata set for Turkey switch?

If reports are to be believed, Manchester United veteran Juan Mata could leave Old Trafford this summer, with Fenerbahce emerging as a potential next destination for the Spanish midfielder. The 32-year old inked a contract extension in 2019 that tied him to the Red Devils till the end of the 2020/21 season, with the option of a further year built into the two-year deal.

Mata has found first team opportunities increasingly hard to come by after the arrival of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting in the winter window. He has been at United for nearly six years, having joined them from Chelsea in the summer of 2014. If he does decide to leave for Turkey, it will end a near-decade long stay in England that began when he moved from Valencia to Stamford Bridge back in 2011.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set for another cleanout this summer as he sets about rebuilding his squad, and veteran Mata may be one of them. The Spaniard is loved by United fans, but with age not quite on his side, a move to the Turkish SuperLig might make more sense in terms of increased playing time for the midfielder.
