Italian clubs in race for Serbian star

Nemanja Matic could become the latest Manchester United star to move to Serie A after reports in Italy claimed Juventus and both the Milan teams to be interested in the Serbian star.

Matic, 31, appears to have fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and could end up following in the footsteps of former teammates Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku, both of whom joined Inter in the recently concluded summer transfer window.

German club Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested in the services of the defensive midfielder, who made his first start of the season for United over the weekend against Leicester. The Red Devils won the fixture 1-0 but Matic was substituted midway through the second half for Fred.

The Serbian international was an unused substitute for United’s first three games of the new Premier League season and only had 20 odd minutes of action in their previous fixture against Southampton. Solskjaer has preferred to give Scott McTominay more first team minutes as he attempts to build a more youthful United side.

Matic joined United from Chelsea in the 2017 summer window. His contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the current 19/20 season, which means he will be free to talk to potential suitors in January.
