Grant makes Pompey return and Burnley sign keeper

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant has returned to Portsmouth as director of football. Grant was previously in the same post for 12 months when Harry Redknapp was at Fratton Park. He left his position to join Chelsea in 2007, where he eventually succeeded Jose Mourinho as the Blues boss.

He guided the Blues to a Champions Final where they were beaten on penalties by Manchester United and also second place in the Premier League. He left the Blues soon after that defeat and has been out of football until now.

New chairman Ali Al-Faraj has been in charge less than 48 hours after he took control of the club from Sulaiman Al-Fahim and has already made his first big decision with the appointment of the Israeli. Grant has signed a three-year deal with Pompey.

He told Israeli website One: “I am happy to return to the best league in the world, the English league,”

Elsewhere Premier League rivals Burnley have completed the signing of young goalkeeper Jonathan Lund. The 20 year-old had been on trial at the Clarets and has signed a deal till the end of the season. Lund has previously played for Leeds and last season Grimsby. Lund could make his debut for the reserves against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
