Cooper new Peterborough boss

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has confirmed Mark Cooper will be the new Posh boss. The Kettering chief will take charge of his last game of the Blue Square Premier League side against Cambridge on Saturday before taking the rains at London Road.

The 40 year-old is expected to sign a three and a half contract and he will officially start his new job on Monday morning. Cooper comes into the job because of Darren Ferguson’s departure from the club by mutual consent earlier this week.

Its believed that Cooper was second choice to replace the departed Ferguson after Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe turned down the job. The Cherries boss decided that he wanted to continue the work he started at the club he represented as a player.

Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: “Mark Cooper has agreed in principle to become our new manager. We have done everything by the book and were going to make a statement at 5pm after Kettering’s game. Mark will sign a three-and-a-half year deal when he comes to the club on Sunday before meeting the players. He will then start on Monday just as we have planned. He is a young, hungry manager who I am personally delighted to have on board.”
