Clarets to swoop for Shackell

Burnley FC are reportedly looking to make Derby County defender Jason Shackell their first signing of the current summer transfer window. Clarets boss Eddie Howe, flush with funds after Jay Rodriguez’s record sale to Southampton, has made defensive reinforcements his top priority and wants to sign Shackell, for whom the Lancashire club have already had a £1m bid rejected. However Howe is confident of landing his man and is expected to come up with an improved bid very soon.

Burnley are also hopeful of signing Wolves’ Sam Vokes, who had a spell on loan at Turf Moor last season. Clarets gaffer Howe knows Vokes from their days at Bournemouth and is hopeful of landing the forward for a cut price £500K or thereabouts.
