Canaries sign Stacey

Norwich City have officially completed the signing of defender John Stacey on a free transfer. The defender moves from Premier League outfit Bournemouth and has inked a three-year contract at Carrow Road.

Stacey had joined Bournemouth from Luton Town back in 2019 for a reported £4m fee on a four-year deal. He made a little under 100 appearances for them across all competitions, with nearly two third of them coming in the 20/21 and 21/22 seasons when Bournemouth were in the Championship.

In the most recently concluded 22/23 Premier League season, he was restricted to 10 league appearances, with Adam Smith and Ryan Fredericks being preferred to him. His only goal for the club came in September 2020 against Blackburn Rovers.

The 27-year-old Stacey is primarily a right back by trade, but can also operate in midfield. He is Norwich’s second signing of the current summer transfer window after striker Ashley Barnes.

The Canaries finished 13th in the 22/23 Championship season with 62 points from 46 games, seven off the playoff spots. They were unable to secure an immediate return to the Premier League, having dropped down from the top flight at the end of the 21/22 campaign.
