Relegation threatened Reading have bolstered their ranks with the acquisition of former Portugal U21 defender Daniel Carrico from Sporting Lisbon. The 24 year old has moved to the Madjeski for a transfer fee of £609,000 and has put pen to paper a two and a half year contract, with the option of a further year’s extension.
Carrico’s contract at Sporting was due to expire at the end of the 2012/13 season. He is a product of the club’s famed youth system and has been with them since the late 90’s.
Although primarily a defender, Carrico can also play as a defender.
Reading, currently second from bottom in the Premiership, will face Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Day.
