Premier League Transfer Round Up – Part 2

Manchester City:-

Have been the biggest spenders in this summer’s transfer market by some distance and are unlikely to be overtaken when the window comes to a close.

City have splashed out the cash on players such as David Silva, Jerome Boateng, Yaya Toure and Alexsandar Kolarov. Since Mancini took over as manager, City have spent more money in the transfer market than all of England’s top fourteen clubs combined.

Will that result in a CL spot this season? We’ll have to wait and watch.

Manchester United:-

Sir Alex Ferguson has continued to implement a quite transfer policy at Old Trafford. Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is the Red Devils’ only major signing from outside England. The only other notable arrival at Old Trafford is young Chris Smalling from Fulham.

Newcastle United:-

The Magpies have made an immediate return to the Premier League by winning the Championship last season. Boss Chris Houghton has signed Dan Gosling from Everton, Sol Campbell on a free from Arsenal and James Perch from Nottingham Forest.

Stoke City:-

Stoke have been linked with several big name players ( remember Pulis wanting to sign Michael Owen last season?), but have so far only netted Florent Cuvelier from relegated Pompey.

Sunderland:-

The Black Cats have been extremely busy in the market as Steve Bruce reinforces his squad. Marcos Angeleri, Titus Bramble, Ahmed Al Muhammadi, Cristian Riveros and Simon Mignolet have all arrived at the Stadium of Light. Eyebrows have been raised, especially at the signing of “Shambles” Bramble, who was mocked at regularly by Sunderland fans when he used to play for Newcastle United.

Tottenham Hotspur:-

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has announced an ambitious scheme of having different shirt sponsors for Premier League and Cup games, but the Lilywhites have not managed to snag anyone of note this summer to don those shirts.

With Spurs competing in the Champions League this season, you can be sure that Redknapp will be making a few signings before this window comes to a close.

West Bromwich Albion:-

Another promoted side like Newcastle, West Brom have made several astute signings this summer. Steven Reid from Blackburn, Boaz Myhill from Hull, Pablo Ibanez from Atletico and Gabriel Tamas from Auxerre have been their main acquisitions.

West Ham United:-

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant is ushering in his own era at West Ham, and has already signed Thomas Hitzlsperger, Frederic Piquionne and Pablo Barrera.

Wigan Athletic:-

The Latics have signed another James from Hamilton Academical- James McArthur, to add to James McCarthy’s signing last season. They have also acquired Antolin Alcaraz, Ali Al Habsi and Mauro Boselli.

Wolverhampton Wanderers:-

Wolves have signed two players from Hull City- Stephen Hunt and Steven Mouyokolo.

Steven Fletcher has arrived from relegated Burnley while Jelle van Damme has signed from Anderlecht.
