Man Utd turn attention to Goetze after cooling Sneijder interest

Manchester United have turned to rising German star Mario Goetze as a possible replacement for Paul Scholes after failing to make headway in bringing Wesley Sneijder to Old Trafford. Sneijder’s wage demands proved to be a stumbling block in a switch from Italy to England and media reports now say that Ferguson is looking to Goetze as a long term successor to the now retired Scholes.

Goetze was one the stars of Dortmund’s title winning campaign last season and is widely touted as the next big thing in German football. He turned in an accomplished performance way beyond his years when Germany beat Brazil in a recent friendly. Coach Jupp Heynckes is keen to hang on to Goetze if possible, having already lost Nuri Sahin to Jose Morinho’s Real Madrid earlier this summer.
