French giants Marseille linked with Arsenal and Liverpool defenders

French giants Marseille are weighing up a potential move for Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal and Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno as they aim to strengthen their defence in the winter transfer window.

Rudi Garcia’s men have been defensively poor this season and the manager has identified left back as a position where they need fresh faces, and has Monreal and Moreno in his wishlist, according to reports emerging from France.

Spanish left back Moreno, who has has also been linked with a move to Barcelona in the local press, has been forced to play second fiddle to Andy Robertson since the Scottish international’s emergence at Anfield.

Monreal has been a more regular starter at Arsenal although injuries have not helped his cause in recent times. With the Gunners facing a mini crisis of sorts at the back, Unai Emery may not want Monreal to leave at such a crucial point of the season.

Despite being fifth in the league table, Marseille have the fourth worst defensive record in Ligue 1- only Guingamp, Amiens and Dijon have conceded more than L’OM. This has been a real issue for Rudi Garcia, more so away from home, where his side have let in 19 goals from 8 games.
