Everton hopeful of making Gomes stay permanent

Everton are said to be hopeful of making Andre Gomes’ stay at Goodison Park a permanent one. The 25 year old is currently on loan at the Toffees from Barcelona, and has turned in a number of impressive performances for them, mostly recently in the Merseyside derby on Sunday evening against arch rivals Liverpool.

Injuries prevented Gomes from making his EFC debut till October, but he’s slowly establishing himself as a key member of the Toffees squad. Gomes had a nightmare stint at Barcelona following his move to the Nou Camp from Valencia, but the relaxed, relatively non-demanding atmosphere at Goodison Park appears to be reinvigorating his career.

Portuguese international Gomes has a 100 million euro release clause in his contract with Barcelona, but Everton will hope to negotiate and bring it down, just as they did for Yerry Mina.

In Gomes’ six league starts for Everton, the Toffees have lost by single goal margins away at Man Utd and Liverpool and held Chelsea to a goalless stalemate at Stamford Bridge. They’ve also beaten Crystal Palace, Brighton and Cardiff at home. Marco Silva’s men are currently sixth in the league standings and will play Newcastle in midweek.
