City fail in bid for John Terry

Manchester City have failed to capture Chelsea skipper John Terry for a second time, after having a bid turned down for the England defender. The size of the bid is unknown, but its believed to be a huge offer. However the Blues have told Manchester City the 28 year old is not for sale.

A statement on Chelsea’s official website said: “We can confirm we have completely rejected an offer from Manchester City for John Terry.

“It was made clear to City, for a second time following an approach last season, that we would not entertain any conversation on the subject.

“At the time John also reiterated his total commitment to Chelsea.

“We would like to make it clear, and will not do so again, that John is not for sale.”

Mega-rich City are believed to be on the lookout for a centre-back and this will come as a blow to manager Mark Hughes ambitions for next season. He could now turn his attention to another long term target, Joleon Lescott of Everton.

The England international has already been linked with a move to Eastlands this summer, but Everton manager David Moyes is reluctant to let the player leave. City are reported ready to offer £15million for the 26 year old, with reports on Merseyside saying that Moyes wouldn’t accept a bid below £20million.

City could also offer Brazilian striker Jo or unsettled defender Micah Richards in part-exchange. Jo was on-loan at Goodison Park last season and could return as part the deal. Richards impressed in the European under-21s Championship and could prove an attractive option for the Everton boss as he starts planning for next season.
