Valencia set to sell star pair

Spanish La Liga side Valencia have admitted they could be forced into selling top stars David Villa and David Silva to ease their major financial difficulties. Los Ches managed to keep hold of their two top players in the summer despite their well documented money troubles but have now confirmed that the pair could leave to ease debts.

The Spanish internationals have been linked with big money moves to the Premier League. Silva claimed in September that he was subject of a big offer from the Premier League in the summer. He didn’t reveal which club the bid was from but there has been rumours that both Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing the midfielder.

In fact Premier League champions United are expected to launch a bid for both Silva and Villa in January. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side still have money to spend from the summer sale of Cristiano Ronaldo. They will face stiff competition from their north west rivals Liverpool though.

Valencia sporting director Fernando Gomez revealed on Las Provoncias TV: “If there was a moment that arrived that we cannot stand it any more, then of course we must sell and they [Villa & Silva] would be sold.

“We made a great effort in the summer to keep them, but if the economic situation continues, then things could become very serious.

“Still it was a success for us to keep them, because there was some large money offered to us.”

Gomez denied they have received any fresh bids saying “We have not received an official offer for either Villa or Silva. I only know what has been said in the papers.”
