Maierhofer makes Wolves exit

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Stefan Maierhofer has left Molineux to join Red Bull Salzburg in his native Austria. Maierhofer, who has transferred for a reported £1m fee, has put pen to paper a two year contract that may be extended by another year, thus potentially tying him to Salzburg till the summer of 2014.

Maierhofer joined Wolves from Rapid Vienna in 2009 but made only nine appearances for the club in an unhappy two season stint. He also had spells on loan at Duisburg and Bristol City during his tenure at Molineux.

The 29 year old forward has an impressive scoring record in Austria, netting 38 times in 60 appearances for Rapid between 2007 and 2009. He is also a regular with the Austrian national football team.
