Larsson, Bowyer and Phillips leave Birmingham

Sebastian Larsson, Lee Bowyer and Kevin Phillips have parted company with Birmingham City FC, the club have announced. Birmingham, winners of the 2010/11 Carling Cup, were relegated to the Championship on the last day of the Premier League season following a loss to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

Along with Larsson, Bowyer and Phillips, goalkeeper Maik Taylor and defenders Martin Jiranek and Stuart Parnaby have also left St. Andrew’s. However veteran defender Stephen Carr will be staying in the Midlands after the club gave him a new one year deal.

Birmingham also revealed that they will be trying their best to keep Scottish forward James McFadden on their books for the 2011/2012 season.

Birmingham fans reacted with surprise to the news of the releases, especially that of Parnaby and Bowyer, both of whom could have helped Blues return immediately to the Premiership.
