Traore Move another Blow to Allardyce

January 27, 2014

Having already been snubbed by Everton’s Johnny Heitinga, West Ham are likely to miss out on another transfer target – only this time Merseyside could be welcoming the new signing.

Monaco striker Lacine Traore – a 6 ft 8” centre forward who the French side purchased from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala last year – is set to move on loan to Everton and heap more pressure on Allardyce to deliver signings that could turn his faltering West Ham side around. Word spreads fast in football, and once the news was out that the Ivorian would be granted a work permit to join the Hammers, Everton swooped to lure him to Goodison Park.

The move may of course not go through at all, following news that Monaco’s most important player – centre forward Falcao – has suffered an injury that could keep him out of action for a number of weeks. Thus, Traore may finally start to see more game time for the Ligue 1 club.
West Ham’s need for a striker does at least seem to be alleviating with the encouraging form of Andy Carroll, the talismanic striker being drip-fed time on the pitch as he recovers from an injury which has kept him sidelined for most of the season thus far.

Hammers add Brazilian to ranks

January 12, 2013

West Ham United have added Brazilian Wellington Paulista to their ranks after signing him from Cruzeiro. Wellington will be the Hammer’s fourth signing of the winter transfer window after Joe Cole, Sean Maguire and Marouane Chamakh. Wellington can play as a centre forward or on both flanks and the Hammers have the option of giving him a three year contract at the end of his loan stint

West Ham have said that they hope Wellington can have a similar impact like other “wildcard” Demba Ba.

Wellington has played for Santos, Botafogo, Cruzeiro and Palmeiras in his native Brazil and has also had a stint in Spain with Alaves.

Ex Hammer returns to Upton Park

January 4, 2013

Liverpool winger Joe Cole has left the club to rejoin his former team West Ham United. Cole joined Liverpool from Chelsea on a free transfer in 2010 but never established himself at Anfield and was farmed out on loan to North French club Lille OSC last season.

Cole has put pen to paper an eighteen month deal with the Hammers and will be eligible for their FA Cup fixture against Manchester United this weekend.

Cole is a product of the Hammers’ renowned youth academy and was with them till 2003 before making a switch to neighbours Chelsea.

Cole will wear the same No.26 shirt that he donned for the club between 1998 and 2003.

West Ham interested in veteran French striker

November 18, 2012

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has admitted he would be interested in signing veteran French striker Nicolas Anelka. The former-Chelsea star is currently plying his trade in China with Shanghai Shenhua. Despite the move proving lucrative the 33 year-old Anelka is believed to be eying up a return to the British top flight.

Allardyce managed Anelka at Bolton and enjoyed working with the former-French international striker. Anelka has been accused of sulking and having a questionable temperament, but Allardyce believes that people have got Anelka all wrong.

The biggest problem facing a possible return to the Premier League could be Anelka’s huge wage packet. He is reportedly on £250,000 a week in the Far East and he would be unlikely to pick-up anything near that sum at the Boleyn Ground.

Anelka has also been linked with a possible return to Liverpool. However, Anelka’s family still live in London and a move to the English capital looks more likely.

Hammers star attracting interest from elsewhere

November 14, 2012

West Ham centre-back Winston Reid is believed to be attracting the attention of the big boys in England and Italy. The New Zealand international has been superb at the back for the Irons this season, as West Ham have climbed to sixth place in the Premier League table.

Reid joined West Ham in 2010 from Danish club Midtjylland and struggled to adapt to English football at first. However, his form started to improve last season and his performances this season have attracted attention from bigger clubs in Europe.

West Ham are believed to be looking to offer Reid a new contract to stave off interest from elsewhere. The Hammers look set to offer Reid a major wage hike to keep him in the East End. However, the lure of a bigger wage elsewhere and the possibility of playing in European competition could be too much of a lure for Reid.

West Ham snap up French international midfielder

August 11, 2012

Premier League newcomers West Ham United have signed French international midfielder Alou Diarra for an undisclosed fee from French side Marseille. The 31 year-old has signed a three-year contract at the Boleyn Ground.

Diarra was part of the France squad that took part in Euro 2012 and started all the group games at the tournament, including the opening game against England. Diarra never really settled at Marseille after previously enjoying spells at other French sides Lyon and Bordeaux.

This will not be Diarra’s first furore into English football. Earlier in his career he spent three years on the books of Premier League Liverpool. However, most of that time he was loaned out and he failed to make a single appearance for the Reds. He will be hoping to prove his critics wrong second time

Hammers agree fee for Ramis

July 29, 2012

Real Mallorca have revealed that West Ham United have reached an agreement with them for the transfer of defender Ivan Ramis. While nothing on the transfer has been forthcoming from the side of the Hammers, the Balearic Islanders made the announcement on their official website. They did not specify the transfer fee involved but said that Ramis was free to have a medical and discuss personal terms with the Upton Park outfit.

The 27 year old Ramis is a product of Mallorca’s youth system and has been with them all throughout his professional life. If the transfer does go through, it will be his first football stint outside Spain.

While Ramis have never won a senior cap for Spain, he has been capped by them at youth levels.

Hammers to bid for the Yak

June 14, 2012

According to reports, West Ham United are set to offer Nigerian striker Yakubu an immediate return to the Premiership. The Yak currently plies his trade for Blackburn Rovers, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2011/12 season and has his heart set on staying in the Premier League.

Rovers would be willing to sell Yakubu on the cheap and that makes him a very attractive transfer option for the Hammers, who along with Reading and Southampton, will be the new entrants in the forthcoming season of the Premier League.

A transfer fee of around £1m is being mooted for Yakubu, who signed for Rovers from Everton on transfer deadline day last summer.

Redknapp aims to bring Parker to White Hart Lane

May 21, 2011

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is set to make West Ham midfielder Scott Parker one of his primary targets this summer. Redknapp has already expressed his interest in Footballer of the Year Parker, who is expected to leave the Championship bound Hammers this summer, but faces possible competition from Arsenal and Liverpool amongst others for the England international’s signature. Parker has been in dazzling form for the Hammers in the 10/11 season and has been their sole silver lining in what has otherwise been a very disappointing season.

Redknapp has also confirmed that over half a dozen players are set to leave Spurs this summer, but the future of Jermain Defoe remains unclear. The Spurs gaffer publicly rebuked Defoe after the latter spoke about his frustration of not being able to play first team football on a regular basis.

West ham eye Flores and Bridge

January 12, 2011

Reports in Italy indicate that West Ham are set to table a £5 million bid for Udinese striker Antonio Floro Flores. The deal would involve the 27-year old striker moving to Upton Park on loan till the end of the season with the Hammers having an option to buy him in the summer. The bid to sign Flores is a bit perplexing given that Italians have historically not done will in the Premier League. But Avram Grant is ready to take this gamble after missing out on Mbokani.

Wayne Bridge’s loan move to West Ham from Manchester City is more or less confirmed. The Hammers are trying hard to get the former Chelsea left-back registered in time to face Arsenal on Saturday. City coach Roberto Mancini confirmed that Bridge was in London undergoing a medical at West Ham. Grant needs cover at left back with Herita Ilunga injured for most of the season. Bridge’s substitute appearance against Aston Villa might well have been his last game in a City shirt.
