Newcastle have been linked with a £4 million bid for Montpellier playmaker Rémy Cabella as Alan Pardew looks to add to his already revitalised squad.
It is a widely held belief that Pardew needs to add one or two names to his side this January to help them maintain the form that has seen them rise to eight in the Premier League table. Consecutive 1-0 defeats to Arsenal and West Brom – as well as a tie with rampant Manchester City on the horizon – only add credence to this claim.
Should Cabella join, he will become the eleventh French player in the Magpies squad, following a heavy recruitment drive by the club twelve months ago, which was characterised by the purchase of numerous players from across the channel. Minor additions are needed on this occasion, rather than the sweeping changes which caused such short-term disruption last January.
Best employed as an attacking midfielder, Cabella was part of the Montpellier side who surprisingly beat Paris St. Germain to the Ligue 1 title during the 2011-12 season; the season during which the Paris side were taken over by the Qatar Investment Authority. Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud was also a part of that Montpellier side, and though his adjustment has taken time, Cabella will help to emulate Giroud’s success should he join the Magpies.Subscribe to Football Transfers by Email

According to reports from Sky Sports, Newcastle could bring in two French internationals strikers in the shape of Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis and QPR’s Loic Remy. Both are expected to move on this summer.
The Magpies have tabled a £6.9million bid for Lyon’s Gomis, while the deal for Remy looks to be a season-long loan deal, with a view to a permanent deal next summer.
Remy was impressive for the Hoops when he arrived in January, but could not help Harry Redknapp’s side being relegated to the Championship. It looks unlikely that he will be playing in the English second tier in the new season.Subscribe to Football Transfers by Email

Newcastle could increase their growing number of French players this summer, according to the Sunday Express. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is believed to have targeted French international duo Andre-Pierre Gignac and Bafetimbi Gomis.
Marseille’s Gignac has attracted the interest of Everton and Liverpool in the past. Gomis meanwhile was a summer transfer target of Swansea, prior to the Welsh club signing prolific striker Wilfried Bony from Vitesse.
Pardew may have to face the headache of replacing striker Papiss Cisse, who does not want to wear the Newcastle kit because the club are now sponsored by controversial loan company Wonga.Subscribe to Football Transfers by Email

According to reports emanating from France Newcastle are looking at signing Marseille and France centre-forward Andre-Pierre Gignac. The Magpies are looking for new striking options and Gignac is considered one of their options. The French striker has also been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal in the past.
Gignac could be coming in a replacement for Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse, who refused to go on a pre-season tour, because the Magpies shirt sponsor next season will be a loan company. This act of defiance could see the striker being sold in the next couple of weeks according to Sky Sports anyway.Subscribe to Football Transfers by Email

According to the Daily Star, Aston Villa striker Darren Bent could be set for a move to Newcastle. Newcastle’s new director of football Joe Kinnear has identified Bent as one of the Magpies biggest transfer targets this summer.
Bent fell out of favour at Villa Park when Paul Lambert arrived from Norwich last summer and refused to play the England striker. Bent struggled to get into the Villa team and was expected to move on last January.
However, a move did not materialise and he is now expected to leave Villa Park this summer. Newcastle have identified the need for new strikers for next season and it seems Bent could be one those.Subscribe to Football Transfers by Email

Newcastle United have announced that they have parted company with Spanish forward Xisco. The striker has left the North East club by mutual consent to join Cordoba in his native Spain. Xisco joined the Magpies from Deportivo La Coruna back in 2008 for a reported £5.7m deal but struggled to settle down on Tyneside and was farmed out on loan, first to Racing Santander and then back to Deportivo.
The 26 year old Xisco has been capped by Spain at U21 level and was touted as one of their best upcoming talents at the time of his transfer to Newcastle.
He made a total of eleven league and cup appearances for the Magpies in his four and a half year stay at the club and last made a senior appearance for them against Aston Villa back in 2010.Subscribe to Football Transfers by Email

The protracted Demba Ba saga seems to be drawing to an end, with Newcastle United officially announcing that they had given Chelsea permission to discuss personal terms with the Senegalese striker. Ba is reported to have an escape clause in his contract, rumoured to be around £7m, and the Blues have triggered it by offering £7m to the Magpies.
Arsenal and Liverpool were also reportedly in the running for Ba, but Chelsea appear to have stolen a march over their rivals. Newcastle have attempted to make Ba revise the terms of his contract in recent months in order to prevent him from leaving in January but their efforts were of no avail.
Ba has scored half of Newcastle’s goals this season but will not be part of the squad that will take on Everton.Subscribe to Football Transfers by Email
