Town target out of favour Magpies star

January 3, 2012

Ipswich Town are reportedly in contention to sign former Manchester United star Alan Smith. The midfielder, who currently plies his trade for Newcastle United, has made only two appearances for the Tyneside outfit this season and was spotted having a look at Ipswich’s training facilities recently.

Smith may consider asking Newcastle boss Alan Pardew to cancel his contract by mutual consent if he is interested in linking up with former team-mate Lee Bowyer at Portman Road.

Smith has failed to net in a league game for the Magpies since his switch from Manchester United in 2007. He has been capped 19 times by England but has been hampered by injuries in the recent past.

Middlesbrough linked with move for Morten Rasmussen

September 5, 2011

Championship outfit Middlesbrough are said to be interested in signing Morten Rasmussen on loan from Celtic. The Danish striker hasn’t quite been able to establish himself since his multi million pound switch to Parkhead and has already undergone loan spells at Mainz and Aalborg.

Despite the summer window being closed, the loan window still remains open for lower league clubs in England, and Boro, being in the Championship, are eligible to take players on loan.

Rasmussen has scored only three goals for Celtic since his move from Brondby in January 2010 on a three and a half year contract. Mainz had the option to secure his services on a permanent basis but they chose not to exercise the option, thus leading the Bhoys to loan him to Aalborg.
