Vaughan joins Rams on-loan

September 18, 2009

Everton striker James Vaughan has joined Championship side Derby on a three month loan deal. Three months is the longest loan period allowed at this stage of the season due to the transfer window shutting. However emergency loan deals are allowed to take place.

As we revealed on footballtransfers.co.uk recently Everton boss David Moyes was hoping to loan out the young forward in aide of him gaining regular first team football. The 21 year-old is currently behind Yakubu, Jo and Louis Saha in the striking pecking order.

The Toffee’s boss told the clubs official website: “I think James Vaughan has just got to play some football. I think he’s missed the best part of two years and he’s been substitute for us on a few occasions and come on and done important roles for us.

“But I think now, he needs to get the games and we’ll see how he does. I think it’s a good club for him to go to, a big club, and he can get a chance to play some games and hopefully get his career really back up and running again.

“It was difficult (to let him go) but the one thing we are pretty strong in is up front, that’s not where we’re desperately short of players. So I feel we’re able to cope without him.”

Derby boss Nigel Clough is delighted with the signing saying: “This is a terrific bit of business for us; James is a good player with an excellent attitude and tons of ability. He is also different to anything else we have at the football club at this moment, so will add some variety to our attack.

“He is strong, quick and brave and knows how to look after himself on the pitch. We are grateful to David Moyes, Bill Kenwright and Everton for allowing him to come here; I think they know we do things properly and will take good care of him.

“There were a number of other clubs in our division interested in James, so it is a big boost for us and Derby County in general that he has decided to come here.”

Hammers sign Franco on a free transfer

September 17, 2009

Gianfranco Zola has strengthened his attack by completing the signing of former Villareal forward Guillermo Franco on a free transfer. Franco played for Villareal from 2006-2009 became a free agent after the Yellow Submarines refused to offer him a new contract. Franco has signed a one-year deal with the London club and becomes the first Mexican to play for West Ham United.

Franco will immediately go into the West Ham sqaud and complement Carlton Cole, Alexandre Diamanti and Luis Jimenez in attack. West Ham have been facing problems in attack with Dean Ashton contemplating retirement and Kieron Dyer having injury troubles. The addition of the Argentina born Mexican international will add to Zola’s options.

Franco was visibly delighted to join Zola’s army -

“I am really happy to sign for West Ham. It was my dream to come to the Premier League and I am proud to play for a club that has so much history. This is a very important stage in my career and I hope to score lots of goals for the club this season and then play at the World Cup.

“This is an important team with great players and a great manager. I know that the club are very ambitious and want to do well. I want to do my best to make that happen and I am excited about the challenge.

“The main motivation was to play in the Premier League. I love English football and I love the Premier League. I had the possibility of joining Estudiantes and two Spanish clubs, but it was the Premier League that drew me here. I can fulfil my desire with West Ham and I am very happy to be here.”

Franco has scored four times in his last six international games for Mexico including one in Mexico’s 3-0 win away at Costa Rica. He had been linked with a move to South American champions Estudiantes as well as two Spanish clubs, but West Ham sealed the deal with two weeks of intense negotiations with him and his agent.

Colchester snap up Kayode Odejayi

September 17, 2009

League One club Colchester United have secured the signing of Nigerian striker Kayode Odejayi on a three month loan deal with a view to making the move permanent. Just as the Ipswich squad is being filled with ex-Sunderland players, Colchester United have signed yet another ex-Chaltenham Town player.

Odejayi, who has a solitary Nigeria cap to his name, played for Chaltenham from 2003-2007 scoring 30 goals in 147 appearances. His move to Barnsley was an unsuccessful one as he managed to score only four goals in 72 games and was loaned out at various clubs.

Barnsley boss Mark Robins said: “Kayode (Odejayi) needs to kick start his career. He will go to Colchester for an initial three months and we will take it from there.”

Odejayi is most famous for scoring the winner against Chelsea for Barnsley in a FA Cup quarter final tie two years ago. He will join the likes of Steven Gillespie and Ashley Vincent – both of whom are former Chaltenham players.

Colchester gaffer Adrian Bothroyd has also secured the loan signing of Wolves youngester Danny Batth. He joins on a short-term loan deal as Pat Baldwin, Paul Reid and Lee Beewers have been sidelined through injury.

Folan joins Boro, Magpies land Zurab

September 17, 2009

As mentioned earlier on football-tranfsfers.co.uk, Middlesbrough have snapped up Hull striker Caleb Folan on a three-month loan deal with a view to make the move permanent. Folan has dropped in the pecking order at Hull City after the arrival of Jozy Altidore and Jan Venegoor of Hesselink and hence moves to the Championship with a view of getting some regular playing time under him. Folan is expected to go straight into the Middlesbrough squad for this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash with West Brom.

Meanwhile, Folan lashed out at Hull boss Brown after he suggested that Folan never looked like being able to score in the Premier League -

“I was a bit surprised to hear the manager’s comments, but I understand they may have been taken out of context. From my point of view, I just hope to do well for Boro, make the move permanent and be playing Premier League football with them next season. Like everyone else in football, managers have different opinions. Phil Brown has made his clear. But I can take consolation in the different opinions shown by Gareth Southgate and Giovanni Trapattoni.”

Also, Newcastle United have completed the three-month loan signing of Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili. The Georgian has not been part of Sam Allardyce’s plans making just one appearance for Rovers this season in the League Cup win at Gillingham.

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton was quick to swoop for the defender after his side suffered their first loss of the season against Blackpool. Zurab will go straight into the Newcastle squad for next week’s clash against Plymouth.

Chelsea keep tabs on De Rossi

September 17, 2009

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelloti is keeping track of Roma midfielder Danielle De Rossi after it has emerged that the Italian midfielder is get disillusioned at Roma’s increasing problems. Chelsea had targeted Pirlo and De Rossi in the summer but failed to entice either of them to Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid were also interested in De Rossi, but the financially crippled Roma team rejected all bids for their hometown star and De Rossi even admitted that he would want to stay at the club for life. But things have gone awry at Roma after the start of the season.

Manager Luciano Spaletti resigned at the start of this month after defeats in the opening two Serie A matches of the season and the propsed takeover which was to ease Roma’s debts hasn’t materialised either. Roma haven’t been able to replace Alberto Aquilani, who moved on to Liverpool in the summer and a weakened team would be more reason for De Rossi to move to England.

Ironically, Chelsea have received a transfer ban till 2011. But they are confident that it would be reduced on appeal and hence making preparations to swoop for De Rossi.

Neill set for Everton move

September 17, 2009

Australian international Lucas Neill is set to sign for Everton on a free transfer. The 31 year-old left West Ham earlier this summer after being unable to agree new contract terms. The former Hammers captain is set to arrive on Merseyside to have a medical.

He has already been linked with a move to Sunderland and even a return to London with former club West Ham. However he has so far been unable to secure his next move. He is a experienced defender in the Premier League and in international football with the Socceroos. Neill now looks set to link up with Aussie international teammate Tim Cahill on Merseyside with Everton.

Everton are in need of defensive reinforcements after losing England international Joleon Lescott to Manchester City. They signed defenders Johnny Heitinga and Sylvain Distin after selling Lescott but are still light in defence.

The Everton boss David Moyes is currently without centre-back Phil Jagielka and suffered the more recent blow of losing captain Phil Neville in the Toffee’s last game. The former Manchester United star had also  appeared at right-back this season.

Neill could prove a useful addition to the squad as he can play at centre-back and right-back and will also provide leadership skills, which at times have appeared to be missing from the current Everton squad.

Vaughan set to be loaned out

September 16, 2009

Everton manager David Moyes has revealed that he would willing to allow young striker James Vaughan to go out on-loan. The youngsters promising career has been hampered by injuries and a loan move would provide the 20 year-old with the opportunity to play more games. He faces big competition for a first team place at Everton with Aiyegbeni Yakubu, Jo, Louis Saha and Victor Anichebe all vying for a striking role as well.

Championship sides Middlesbrough and Newcastle are said to be leading the race for the England Under-21 international. He has appeared for the Toffee’s reserves recently but hes looking for some first team action. The Toffee’s manager David Moyes revealed: “Vaughany is all right,”

“He has had a few problems with his knee but it’s settled now. He trained the last few days and will be in the squad on Sunday (against Blackburn).

“It would benefit James to go out on loan. It will benefit him to get some games, that will be valuable to the boy. He has missed a lot of football.”

The youngster is the youngest ever Premier League goalscorer at the age of 16 years 357 days when he scored for the Toffee’s against Crystal Palace in 2005. He also overtook former Everton prodigy Wayne Rooney as the clubs youngest ever scorer.

Boro complete St Ledger deal as they close on Folan

September 15, 2009

Championship side Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Preston defender Sean St Ledger on-loan with a view to a permanent transfer in January. The North East side have been in talks with North End for the last few weeks and they have finally captured their man.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate revealed: “I’m really delighted to be able to bring Sean in. He’s somebody we think is already a class act. He reads the game really well, he’s got great composure and we think he’ll be a good foil for our other centre-halves.”

The 24 year-old won Preston Player of the Season last season and is highly rated at Deepdale. However the former Peterborough star is in the last year of his contract and could leave for nothing next summer. St Ledger will go straight in to Boro’s squad for their game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Middlesbrough have also agreed a loan deal for Hull City striker Celeb Folan with a view to a permanent transfer in the January window. The 26 year-old is expected to sign by the end of the week. He started the first four Premier League games for the Tigers, but the arrivals of Jozy Altidore, Kamil Ghilas and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink has saw him frozen out at the KC Stadium.

Chelsea defy ban, continue to spend.

September 14, 2009

Chelsea have defied the transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA and have agreed to sign another 17-year old player from Croatia. The player in question is Croatian goalkeeper Matej Delac. The Blues have agreed a £2million fee for the 6 ft 3 in shot stopper with his current club Inter Zapresic. Delac had a medical on Friday which he passed successfully. He is the youngest player in the Croatian top division and has represented his national team at the Under 16, Under 17 and Under 19 levels.

Frank Arnesen, Director of Football at Chelsea, has been sending his scouts to Croatia to track the youngster’s progress since last season when he made his debut for Inter Zapresic. However, Chelsea would not be able to bring Delac to Stamford Bridge until January 2011 because of the transfer ban imposed on them.

Delac was recently called to the Croatian first team by Slaven Bilic as third choice goalkeeper. He was in the squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and England, but is yet to make his international debut. He stayed back in London after Wednesday’s match with England and agreed personal terms with Chelsea.

Fulhams Stoor looking for loan move

September 14, 2009

Fulham full-back Frederik Stoor is looking to move away from Craven Cottage on loan after his high price tag put teams off making a permanent move for the 25 year-old according to his agent Per Jonsson. The Swedish international joined the Cottagers last summer from Rosenborg, but found it hard to break in to the first team on a regular basis due to John Pantsil’s good form.

He made just seven appearances last season and his 2million euro price tag proved too high for any club wanting to sign the star. His agent Jonsson has now revealed that a loan move could be the ideal solution to his situation with a host of Championship clubs being linked with a move for the Swede.

Jonsson told Fotbollskanalen.se. “It’s been a far too high price tag on him”

“Fulham of course want some of the money back. From the beginning they thought that they could get pretty much all of it back. But now they notice that’s going to be hard. Everyone (clubs) thinks ‘we will sell before we buy’ because of the financial situation.

“The clubs are now prevented from buying until January but in England there is still two months when you can loan a player. Our thoughts of finding a permanent solution aren’t the No.1 priority. We are looking at clubs in the Championship.”

Jonsson however revealed that there is currently no interest in the former Rosenborg ace he continued:

“No, there aren’t. But believe me there isn’t (any interest) with anyone. You need to have a Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) to get people to call, but they still don’t call as he is too expensive.”
